This mini documentary/travel project was meant to be simple: learning my way around a point-and-shoot camera. A trip through the wild streets of New York City felt like the perfect opportunity. Maybe it’s cliché, but I’m glad I did... because there’s something this city does that no other place can.
Reinspire.
- NYC, Cleansing Part A
It reminded me of a time when I used to take my old Canon Rebel out every day, on every trip, for every memory I could capture. I realized how adulting really took away my passion for photography. For a moment, I was only capturing images for work, which made me resent the art itself. I slowly started wondering whether I even liked photography in the first place.
- NYC, Cleansing Part B
IA moment in time, exactly 1/340 of a second, is all I needed to take this picture. But that moment was part of the couple of seconds my eyes took to admire it, the hours it took to walk through Central Park, and the months of excitement and agony it took to plan this trip with my sister. It became a reminder of the first bite of a slice, the pain in my legs, the sound of sirens… every memory New York City can offer.
It is storytelling. That’s what it has always been about.
